$80 PPV For Davis-Roach: Roach Confident, But Price Remains A Sticking Point For Fans

Lamont Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) says he’s well-prepared for the punching power of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) on Saturday night. Roach states that he’s sparred fighters from 147 to 160, who can punch for their size, and he’s not going to be “scared” or “frantic” when he faces Tank for his WBA lightweight strap.

Handling Davis’ power is only half the battle. Roach will still need to contend with his boxing skills, as he’s got the talent to box with him if he can’t score a knockout. It will be difficult for Roach to win rounds if they land the same number of shots. The judges will be more impressed with Tank’s harder punches.

PPV Price Point

The timing of this fight is bad because it’s coming after Turki Alalshikh’s $30 card last Saturday night in Riyadh. Fans on social media are complaining about the $80 for the Davis vs. Roach event on PPV, and many of them are saying they won’t purchase it. It’s obviously too late to drop the price of the event.

So, PBC has got to hope fans won’t mind paying that much. What would help is if Davis helped promote Saturday’s event because he’s been missing in action. He’s left Roach to do all the promoting singlehandedly.

Tank needed a bigger name for his opponent to be priced so high for his event. To keep fans from grumbling, he needed to fight one of these fighters: Shakur Stevenson, Abdullah Mason, Vasily Lomachenko, William Zepeda, or Keyshawn Davis.

Davis-Roach will meet in the 12-round main event this Saturday, March 1st, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event will be shown on PBC on Prime Video PPV.

“I’m not worried but cautious. Obviously, he can punch. We know that. That’s not detering our game plan. We’re prepared,” Lamont Roach told Fighthype about what he’s up against, facing the knockout artist Gerrvonta Davis on Saturday.

“We sparred some bigger guys, guys that can punch. Previously, I been in there with middleweights, junior middleweights, and welterweights. I been in with some dudes that can punch for their size, too. I’m not going in there frantic, scared.

“He’s a good fighter. Whatever he has to do to adjust, I’m pretty sure, he’ll try to do. We’re ready for anything, any style, any adjustment, for his tendencies, for his weaknesses, for his strong and strong points. We’re ready for everything,” said Roach.
