In her new memoir, “This Far: My Story of Love, Loss and Embracing the Light,” the 36-year-old dancer and TV personality revealed that Boss left her saddled with a $1 million tax bill, largely due to what she describes as his “reckless” spending on drugs and unusual art collections.
Allison Holker pushed back on the assumption that she inherited wealth from her late husband, telling readers that “it’s a misconception” that she was financially secure after his death.

“The reality is quite different,” Holker wrote in her memoir, per Page Six. “He had given away substantial sums of money to family and friends and spent recklessly on drugs and his weird art collections. The tax bill that he left me with for the year he died was $1 million.”
Holker also noted that she and Boss kept separate bank accounts, which ultimately left her bearing the financial burden alone. “I had been under the impression that the arrangement was working just fine,” she wrote. “He managed his income, and I managed mine, and we divvied up the bills. Easy-peasy. Or so I thought.”

However, after his passing, paying off his tax bill completely depleted his accounts, forcing Holker to take on an unexpected financial responsibility while grieving.

Holker, who shared son Maddox, 8, and daughter Zaia, 5, with Boss, and 16-year-old Weslie, whom Boss adopted from Holker’s previous relationship, admitted that sorting out their financial affairs temporarily distracted her from her grief. But it didn’t change the fact that she was left in a challenging position.
“If he had known how much of our hard-earned money would go to pay lawyers’ fees to clean up the mess he left me with, would it have made any difference?” she questioned in her memoir.
“I’d like to believe it would have,” she continued. “Stephen left me with double the work, double the noise, double the hardships, double the confusion, and half the household earnings.”

“Looking back, I realize his two very different personalities were increasingly battling each other,” she revealed. “What if he felt safe being this one individual who could have different kinds of energies? You don’t have to be a completely different person and put them aside from each other.”

In the months leading up to his tragic passing, Allison Holker began noticing subtle but concerning shifts in Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ behavior. He became more withdrawn, less focused on self-care, and was smoking more frequently.
Though he admitted to feeling low, Holker recalls that he was “very careful about his wording,” never fully revealing the depth of his pain, even to her.
“He was wrestling with a lot inside himself, and he was trying to self-medicate and cope with all those feelings because he didn’t want to put it on anyone,” Holker shared in a recent interview with PEOPLE Magazine. “He loved everyone so much,” she added, emphasizing his reluctance to burden those around him.

Among the heartbreaking revelations in her book, Holker shared that Boss had privately alluded to being sexually abused by a male figure during his childhood, something he carried silently throughout his life.
“He didn’t want other people to take on his pain,” she said, reflecting on the emotional weight he bore alone.
While uncovering these painful truths initially left Holker feeling a deep sense of betrayal, time has given her a new perspective. Reading through Boss’ personal journals, revisiting the books he had read, and examining the passages he had highlighted offered her a clearer understanding of the internal battles he faced.
“It did have me feel a lot of empathy towards him and sadness for all the pain that he was holding,” she admitted.
