Lisandro Martinez will miss the rest of the season after Manchester United confirmed the defender damaged a cruciate ligament in Sunday’s home defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Argentina international was carried off on a stretcher at the weekend and, although United have not specified how long he will be out, most ACL injuries require a rehabilitation period of at least six months.
That timeframe will mean Martinez will return over the summer and should be fit for the start of next season.

A United statement read: “Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.
“Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.
“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way.”
Martinez has been one of the few constants in a United defence that has chopped and changed all season due to form and fitness issues.
The former Ajax man had been playing well and scored the winner as United won 1-0 at Fulham on January 26.
