Twitter reactions: Tony de Zorzi seals Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s spot in SA20 2025 final with victory over Paarl Royals



The Qualifier 2 of the SA20 2025 was power packed with some emphatic cricket on both ends to dominate the course of play. Ultimately, it was Sunrisers Eastern Cape which triumphed over Paarl Royals and led his team into the finals of the tournament where Sunrisers will face MI Cape Town.

Paarl Royals put together a competitive total

Royals opted to bat first after winning the toss with the hope that they could dominate Sunrisers bowlers early on in the game. However, the team from Paarl had a dreadful start to their innings with Mitchell Owen was sent back to the pavilion on a duck by Marco Jansen.

However, after the early setback Royals made a solid comeback with opener Lhuan dre-Pretorious and Rubin Hermann developing a remarkable partnership between them to stabilize the Royals innings. Pretorious played an emphatic innings 59 runs off 41 balls to dominate the Sunrisers bowlers. He was supported by Hermann who saw the Royals innings till the end and played an unbeaten 81-run knock off 53 balls. At the end of their 20 overs, Royals scored a total of 175 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Tony de Zorzi’s masterclass for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Sunrisers arrived on the crease with a set target in sight and the desire to sail through the finals of the tournament for the 3rd consecutive time. The batters had a sense of purpose throughout the run-chase even though they didn’t get the start they expected. After David Bedingham’s early dismissal by Kwena Maphaka, opener Tony de Zorzi and Jordan Hermann ensured a power-packed partnership and paved the way for a comfortable win for the Sunrisers.

De Zorzi in particular had a stellar performance with the bat as he played some remarkable shots during his emphatic innings in which he made 78 runs off 49 balls star-studded with 11 fours and 2 towering sixes. For his brilliant innings which led his team to a successful run-chase and entry into the finals, De Zorzi was proclaimed as the Player of the Match. The Sunrisers managed to achieve the target in 19.2 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

The much-anticipated finals of the SA20 2025 will be played on February 8 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Sunrisers’ entry into the finals came at the backdrop of their intense season in which the team gradually improved as the tournament progressed. Sunrisers finished 3rd in the points table in the regular season and earlier defeated Joburg Super Kings in the eliminator of the prestigious tournament.
