India’s captain Rohit Sharma showed why he is loved and respected so by all the seniors and juniors within the team. After the match between India and Bangladesh ended on February 20 in Dubai, Rohit greeted Shubman Gill with an unexpected pose.
After winning the match for India, Shubman Gill shook hands with the opposition players on the field before walking back to the dressing room. Skipper Rohit Sharma led the Indian team as they walked into the ground for customary handshakes.
Rohit showed respect by greeting Shubman Gill by bowing down in a similar pose that the latter did after completing his hundred during the game. The bowing down gesture has become a signature celebratory step for Gill in his short career.

It was a great gesture from the Indian captain who was absolutely thrilled with India’s start to the campaign and decided to greet his deputy with a brilliant pose. Rohit hugged Gill later and congratulated him for a magnificent hundred.
Shubman Gill plays a match-winning knock
It was a terrific knock from Shubman Gill who showed tremendous composure in a high-class knock. Gill was aggressive at the start but ensured to mix caution with aggression. His opening partner Rohit Sharma played in the usual attacking mode to give India a flying start on a difficult pitch in Dubai.
Rohit struck 41 off 36 balls while Kohli too didn’t trouble the scorers much. India kept losing wickets at the other end which put more pressure on Gill. The Men in Blue were reduced to 144-4 at one stage and it seemed like Bangladesh were coming back into the match.
However, the Indian vice-captain responded well with calmness and composure. There was a phase when Gill had to curb his attacking instincts to play defensively. However, he came out unscathed from that situation and ensured to carry India through.
The 25-year-old reached his hundred off 125 balls. Gill’s century was the slowest hundred by an Indian batter in ODIs since the 2019 World Cup. He remained unbeaten on 101 off 129 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes.
KL Rahul remained unbeaten at the other end on 41 off 47 balls as India chased down a target of 229 runs with 21 balls to spare. The Men in Blue won the match by 6 wickets in the end.
Bangladesh revive from an early stutter
It was a good start for India in their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. The Men in Blue terrifically started the match as they reduced Bangladesh to 35-5 at one stage.
Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana provided the initial breakthroughs while Axar Patel picked up two wickets in his first over. He could have got a hat-trick had Rohit Sharma not dropped a sitter at slip.
A magnificent partnership followed between Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali which put Bangladesh in a respectable position. Although both were dismissed later, Bangladesh were able to post 228 runs on the board.
