Israil Madrimov came in two lbs under the junior middleweight limit at 152.1 lbs, while WBC interim champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. weighed in a pound under at 153.1 lbs at Friday’s weigh-in for their fight this Saturday, February 22nd at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Surprisingly, both fighters came in well below the 154-lb limit, which shows how seriously they’re taking this fight. The Ortiz Jr.-Madrimov fight will be shown live on DAZN PPV on the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2 card.

Madrimov lost that fight and his WBA belt by a 12-round unanimous decision.

There’s a good chance that the Ortiz Jr. vs. Madrimov fight steals the shot on the card, as it’s the most evenly matched, and it involves two big punchers. This fight should be the main event in the eyes of many fans.

“Both fighters are underweight. Madrimov is under by a couple of pounds. Vergil Ortiz under by a pound,” said commentator Ade Oladipo to DAZN Boxing about WBC interim junior middleweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. and challenger Israil Madrimov coming in under the 154-lb limit.

“They’re in incredible shape. Vergil Ortiz usually looks a little soft around the waist. He has that soft body look, even though he’s so strong,” said Sergio Mora. “You can tell he’s in the best shape of his life. Madrimov always comes in muscular and in shape.

“This is as good as it gets. This fight right here might steal the night. You’re hearing it all the time because styles make fights. This is intensity at its best.”
