Crystal Palace now eyeing summer move for midfielder with “great technique”

Crystal Palace are now eyeing a summer move for a midfielder with “great technique”, who is also wanted by Ipswich Town, according to a report.

Palace on the rise

After a slow start to the Premier League season, Palace have improved as the campaign has gone on, picking up 26 points over the previous 15-game period, the joint fifth-highest total in the top flight.

At this point, a push for the European places seems a little optimistic, but the Eagles are showing signs they could be in contention next season, picking up a fourth away win on the bounce at Craven Cottage yesterday.

However, a number of key players are now attracting attention ahead of the summer, with the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta, Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton all being linked with moves away.

Most recently, Manchester United have emerged as potential suitors for Wharton, with a £66m move on the cards, so it may be very difficult to keep hold of the midfielder this summer.

The Eagles have their eye on a striker ahead of the summer transfer window.

As such, Oliver Glasner may be forced into action in the next transfer window, and Palace are now believed to be lining up a move for a new midfielder.

According to a report from Africa Foot, Watford’s Edo Kayembe is now a target for the Eagles, who are tracking his performances ahead of a potential summer move.

Kayembe has some Premier League experience, having played 13 games in the competition for the Hornets in the 2021-22 campaign, and he is now in line for a return to the top flight.

Ipswich are also named as potential suitors for the 26-year-old, who has caught the eye with his performances for Watford in the Championship this season.

Kayembe impressing in the Championship

The DR Congo international is showing signs he deserves another crack at the Premier League, having performed well in the second tier this season, establishing himself as a key player for the Hornets and making 32 league appearances.

The former Anderlecht man displayed his attacking ability during that time, picking up seven goals and one assist, and he received high praise from manager Tom Cleverley.

“He’s been brilliant for us, and is an example for us day in day out on how to train, how to prepare and how to play,”

“Edo has pace, power, he’s got great technique, and all of those attributes lend themselves to playing a little bit further forward.”

Kayembe’s performances in the Championship indicate he could be a solid signing for Palace this summer, but Glasner’s main priority in midfield should be to keep hold of Wharton, as it will be very difficult to replace the 21-year-old.
