Shakira Cancels Second Concert In a Row Due to Safety Concerns


Shakira has confirmed that her concert in Colombia will not be held, following a statement from the concert promoter claiming it was canceled for safety reasons.

The singer revealed that she was “excited” to perform in the country but that the situation leading to the cancellation was “out of her hands.”

Shakira also apologized to the fans for the inconvenience, adding that she hopes to return for a show in the near future.

For the second time in a row, Shakira has canceled her concert, this time disappointing fans in Colombia who were anticipating her performance.

The pop star took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce the news in a heartfelt statement written in Spanish.

“My people from Medellín! It hurts me a lot not to be able to get on stage and sing for you as much as I wanted to,” the singer said about the canceled show, which was scheduled for February 24.

Further addressing the issue, the “Waka Waka” star told her fans that she was “excited” to meet them, but since it is no longer possible, she was “sorry for the inconvenience, especially for those who have traveled. She also noted that the decision was “out of her hands.”

While fans will definitely not see her perform on the scheduled date, there is still hope for a return, as the singer confirmed that she and the promoters were working on finding one.

“I’m sure we’ll soon find a new date to celebrate together,” Shakira added in her statement. “I love you very much and I hope to see you very soon.”

The Show Was Canceled For ‘Saftey Reasons’

Although Shakira wasn’t explicit about the reason for the show’s cancellation, the event organizers revealed that it was due to safety concerns with the venue’s roof.

“The roof of the stage installed by the local production suffered damage that puts at risk the safety of the artist, her staff, and, most importantly, that of the audience,” concert promoter Páramo Presenta said in a statement obtained by Billboard.

He also mentioned that there would be a rescheduling for a later date, which wasn’t disclosed.

“The promoter and the artist’s team are working together and hope to reschedule the date in the future,” the statement further read. “We understand that this decision may be annoying for the public who were anxiously awaiting the show, but the most important thing is everyone’s safety.”

The Singer Previously Canceled Her Show In Peru Over An ‘Abdominal Issue’

Shakira had previously canceled her show in Peru, which was scheduled for February 16. At the time, the singer revealed that she did so over health reasons that forced her to be hospitalized.

“I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized,” Shakira wrote at the time, per The Blast.

While she did not disclose the exact details of the “abdominal issue,” Shakira claimed that her doctors recommended she postpone the show as she was “not in good enough condition to perform.”

Similar to her apologies to her Columbian fans, the “Hips Don’t Lie” crooner also noted that she was “very sad to not be able to take the stage” and had “been looking forward to reuniting” with her “incredible fans here in Peru.”

Shakira added, “I know that perfection does not exist, but I do know that tonight I will give myself to you as I am, with my voice sharpened by experience and my skin marked by each one.”

Earlier in the month, Shakira landed the best Latin pop album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

The singer’s project, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” won the category over the likes of Anitta’s “Funk Generation,” Luis Fonsi’s “El Viaje,” Kany García’s “GARCÍA,” and Kali Uchis with “ORQUÍDEAS.”

During her acceptance speech, Shakira said it felt “incredible” to win the award and dedicated it to all her “immigrant brothers and sisters in this country.”
