Ryan Garcia’s Left Hook Power: Romero Fight Preparation

Ryan Garcia was working out today in the gym with his trainer, Eddy Reynoso, showing his hand speed and powerful left hook on the reflex bag. Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) is preparing for his still-to-be-announced fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in May.

Left Hook Focus

Garcia looks like he’s weighing in the 160s and is not fighting shape yet. His match against Rolly is supposed to be at welterweight, so he doesn’t have a lot of weight to lose to get to 147. Ryan’s left hook looks as powerful as ever. Rolly (16-2, 13 KOs) will need to be a lot more defensive in this fight than he showed in his knockout loss to Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz last year on March 30th if he doesn’t want to get stopped.

There have been reports that Garcia vs. Romero will be on May 2nd in New York City, but it hasn’t been made official. If that date sticks, Ryan will be coming off a 13-month downtime since his last fight against Devin Haney on April 20th. Garcia was suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission for testing positive for a PED.

“The best left in the world. Today, Ryan was at his best. Calm and collective but still dangerous when it comes to boxing. Here he is, hitting the Fierce Reflex bag at full strength and speed. Let’s Goo!” said Henry Garcia on Instagram.

Garcia’s tune-up fight against Rolly will prepare him for a rematch with Devin Haney in October. Turki Alalshikh is putting on this fight. Haney will be on Ryan’s undercard in May with a warmup fight.

Ryan is no longer with coach Derrick James. He replaced him with Reynoso, but it’s unclear why. He’d done well with James, but perhaps being in with Reynoso is better because of the location for training in Southern California. Also, Reynoso trains Canelo Alvarez, and it’ll motivate Ryan to be around the superstar.
