Conor Benn looked 100% intimidated by the size and the confidence of the bigger Chris Eubank Jr. during their face-off today in the stadium for their April 26th fight at Tottenham Hotspur’s in London.
We’d heard from Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, that he would go at him “On sight”, but he was scared today facing Eubank Jr. (34-3, 25 KOs). It looked more like Benn was ‘Scared on sight.’ Hearn had made Benn sound ready to go postal on Eubank Jr. when he saw him, but today, he was nothing. He talked tough but inside, pure jelly.
Frozen in Fear
It was thought Conor would attempt revenge for being smacked in the face with a raw egg last Tuesday. The two fighters were supposed to be kept apart for fear that Benn would attack Eubank Jr., but they were still allowed to face-off directly in front of each other
. If Benn had wanted to, he could have swung on Eubank Jr, but he didn’t have it in him. He looked afraid. Eubank Jr. got into a fighting stance, inviting a confrontation, but Benn just stood motionless. There was no fight in him.
Pre-fight Pity
“I pity him, what he stands for, what he is, what he’s done, and I pity the beating he’s going to have to endure on April 26th,” said Chris Eubank Jr. to Ring Magazine’s YouTube channel, giving his thoughts on Conor Benn. “I did what I needed to do. I embarrassed a drug cheat, which is what is needed for this sport,” said Eubank Jr. about the egging he did to Benn last Tuesday.
Eubank Jr. is generally angry that Benn tested positive three years ago, wiping out their October 8, 2022 fight. Not only did a lot of money go down the drain, but the idea that Benn had something in his system upsets Eubank Jr.
“We can’t let these people not be accountable for their actions. We can’t let them get caught cheating, and then act like it’s okay. ‘I’m cleared. I can’t say why.’ No. If you get caught with drugs in your system, especially in a fight against me, then the minimum you’re going to receive is an egg across your face,” said Eubank Jr.
“I don’t know if I’m a good guy. It’s been 11 years of booing, of people wanting to see me lose. I don’t know how all of a sudden it can change. The days of me being the hero that everyone was rooting for, they’ve left. They’re gone a long time ago. I have now expectations now. Now, I just do what I need to do to win,” said Eubank Jr.
