This month Sony wraps up its weird 2024 for superhero movies with Kraven The Hunter. After the… lets say divided, reactions, to Madame Web, and Venom: The Last Dance‘s box office success in the face of middling reviews, Kraven has a lot to prove when it comes to handling its formerly-known-as-SPUMC Spidey-adjacent movieverse. A bold move in that moment to prove? Dropping the entire opening of your movie online before it hits theaters.
Sony previously teased fans attending New York Comic-Con this past October with a look at the sequence, which sees Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Sergei Kravinoff locked up in a Russian prison (and promptly, brutally getting his way back out). But now for those who weren’t in attendance, the studio has released the entire sequence online ahead of the film’s debut next week.
It’s a pretty fun sequence, and only slightly touches on the gory side of Kraven we know the movie is amping up–but it is wild to watch Aaron Taylor-Johnson just bound around a prison like a man possessed and do a few nasty kills either way. Whether the rest of the movie maintains that sense of brutal fun, remains to be seen–we’ll find out when Kraven The Hunter hits theaters on December 10.
