AEW Full Gear saw many amazing matches take place, including one that had a brutally dangerous spot. Even Jim Ross admitted he was concerned following the spot.
One of the most highly anticipated matches at AEW Full Gear 2024 was the bout between Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay. The two men were able to tell an impactful story due to their history together.
Their match was filled with high-octane action, as expected, and involved many high-risk spots. During one spot, Kyle Fletcher performed a jumping tombstone piledriver to Ospreay from the apron onto the steel steps, which had everyone concerned.
Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross said that he was concerned about the well-being of both the men involved. He said that either man getting injured due to the spot could’ve hampered the creative direction. He also thought both men wouldn’t be able to walk away from the match, but they did, which he attributed to their youth.

“But that scared the s**t out of me, boy. It really did. That spot scared the hell out of me. I thought ‘There’s no way that both these dudes are going to walk away from this okay.’ But they did. I guess that’s the thing about youth, Connie, [that] you and I can’t really relate to. These guys are young and resilient,” said Jim Ross. [H/T WrestlingInc.]
Jim Ross doesn’t want to lose Kenny Omega from AEW TV
Kenny Omega has been absent for over a year ever since he was diagnosed with diverticulitis. He has been recovering after surgery. However, he recently appeared at NJPW Power Struggle and indicated that he wanted to return to the promotion. Following this segment, he was attacked by Gabe Kidd. In a later interview, The Cleaner challenged Gabe to a match at Wrestle Dynasty which raised a lot of eyebrows since it will be his first match back and is not taking place in AEW.
On his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross addressed the possibility of Kenny Omega permanently leaving AEW TV. He expressed concern over the same and said that guys like that don’t come along too often.
“So you know, we’ll see. But Kenny Omega is one of my favorites. I’m just selfish, I want my guys to be front and center… I just don’t want to lose Kenny Omega permanently from AEW television. He’s too good, he’s just really, really good. And guys like that don’t come along all the time. They don’t grow on trees, as the little cliche goes. But they know they don’t come along, but only a few times in a lifetime. So you hate to lose a guy that’s got that much talent, that much versatility.” [H/T Ringside News]
It will be interesting to see when Kenny Omega will return to action in an All Elite Wrestling ring.
