The Real Housewives of New Jersey star opened up about the now-infamous encounter, revealing that she never intended for things to spiral in the way they did.

“Hindsight is 20/20, but I did not think it was going to go that way,” Jennifer 47, exclusively told Us Weekly on January 8. “Not at all.”

The Incident at Jersey Mike’s

The drama began when Jennifer posted a video on social media earlier this month, claiming that she waited “what felt like forever” to be served at an airport Jersey Mike’s location. In response, one of the employees shared a TikTok video calling Jennifer a “stupid bitch” and accusing her of holding up the entire line. While Jennifer was shocked by the reaction, she asserted that she “was not rude” to any of the staff members.

“We’re a big group. I’m a family of seven,” Jennifer explained. “I have a sister with my goddaughter. She’s a widow [and] her and my goddaughter come with us everywhere we go. So, we travel [with] nine people or a lot of people. We met up with my cousin who’s another family of six. … We’re 15 people, not to mention the other two families that were meeting up with us at the airport.”

Navigating Airport Chaos

Jennifer and her husband, Bill Aydin, 51, were traveling with their five children during the holiday season when they made the stop at Jersey Mike’s. After getting through TSA security, Jennifer and her cousin Susie decided to grab food before their flight. Jennifer recounted how they arrived at the sandwich chain just as it opened and stood in line around 5:45 a.m. “It was a little slow moving, but we weren’t going to complain,” Jennifer explained.

Things started to get tense when Jennifer’s cousin, Susie, stepped out of the line to check out another kiosk. “She didn’t come back on the line with me because it already started accumulating,” Jennifer shared. “So, she decided to wait for me at the front of the register until it was my turn.” When it was Jennifer’s turn, she let Susie go ahead of her, though Jennifer believes others may have thought she was letting Susie “cut” the line. “I didn’t let her cut,” Jennifer clarified. “I only ordered one sandwich. I only had one that my kids wanted to split. That was my task. I’m in mom mode trying to just get my kids food.”

Frustrations Build as Order Is Delayed

Once Susie ordered, Jennifer followed with her own order, only to find that the woman behind her was helped first. “We’ve already been waiting. We’re at an airport, we have a flight to catch,” Jennifer said. “We’ve already been through TSA, I’m a big group, everything took [time], so, obviously, tensions are high.” She reminded the employee that she had ordered first, but the worker responded, “You have to wait your turn.” Jennifer added, “I didn’t want to make a big thing about it.”

The situation escalated further when Jennifer’s husband arrived to add another sandwich to the order.

“They’re working on my one sandwich that I ordered,” Jennifer said. “It’s a foot-long Italian, and Bill said one of our kids wanted a plain tuna mini with nothing on it.” Jennifer requested the additional sandwich, but the employee told her to “get to the back of the line,” which further frustrated her. “She looks up and I guess she realized I was right and she goes, ‘Well, then the guy behind you has to say it’s OK.’”

The Man Behind Her in Line

At this point, Jennifer had not noticed the man behind her, who reportedly commented that it was “kind of ridiculous” that Jennifer was adding another sandwich to her order. “Tensions are high. I know I’m going to get blamed for something and I’m going to keep my cool,” Jennifer said. “The whole point of me recording — I know it backfired — was to show that I was not snapping. I’m just recording the window. At that point, the guy is not even in my thing.”

The man then allegedly claimed to be a law professor and threatened to sue Jennifer for “all [her] fake diamonds” if she posted the video. Jennifer expressed her shock and disbelief at his reaction, saying, “I am literally so shocked and disgusted by this man’s behavior,” adding that she gets “triggered by bad behavior.”

A Moment of Regret

Jennifer admitted that, in the heat of the moment, she didn’t handle the situation well. “I realize that I did not tackle this correctly, but, in the moment, I was just so shocked and appalled by this really unwarranted, aggressive behavior. Then, I put the camera on him,” she said. “In my angst, I was telling him because I wanted him to know that you just can’t be rude to people like that. You don’t know who you’re being rude to and I’m going to put you on blast.”

Despite the incident, Jennifer reiterated that she was trying to be polite to the Jersey Mike’s staff and wasn’t being rude to them at any point. “I was not rude to the Jersey Mike’s staff at all,” she clarified. “I was trying to be polite.”

Customer Service and Apologies

The situation took a turn when one of the employees allegedly threatened not to finish Jennifer’s sandwich order. “In the video, they were still working on my sandwich. It’s not like I had paid. I didn’t check out,” Jennifer explained. “So for them to tell me to wait to the end of the line or that I had to ask this guy’s permission — that just really started an altercation. They shouldn’t have done that and that’s just customer service.”

Reflecting on her actions, Jennifer acknowledged that posting the video was a mistake. “I realized that I should have done it in a different manner and it could have landed a little differently,” she said. “And I’m learning now not to do things in the heat of the moment, because I was not furious as a celebrity. … I was a paying customer that didn’t get the sandwich for her kid.”

Jennifer also apologized for some of her remarks, including calling an employee an “80-year-old woman,” but clarified that she wouldn’t be reaching out to Jersey Mike’s or the man behind her in line for an apology. “I’m not going to,” she said. “They’re constantly blasting me. … I will apologize for calling [the worker] an 80-year-old woman and doing all that, but that’s where it ends. They’re monetizing this, which I’m very happy for. At last some good will come to them from this.”

Learning from the Experience

As the situation continues to unfold, Jennifer seems to be taking responsibility for her actions while acknowledging the challenges that come with being in the public eye. “I have to realize that I’m a public figure and that everything that I say or do will be scrutinized and I actually have to lead by example,” she concluded.
