Luton appoint Wycombe boss Bloomfield as new manager

Luton Town have named Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield as their new boss to replace Rob Edwards.

Edwards led the Hatters to the Premier League in 2023 but left his position last week after a poor season back in the Championship.

Bloomfield, 40, has guided Wanderers to second place in League One, losing just four games in the league all season.

Luton are in 20th place in the Championship, just two points above the relegation zone. Bloomfield’s first game in charge will be at home to Preston on Saturday and he has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Kenilworth Road.

“It’s a genuine honour and a privilege to be here, to be appointed as manager of this incredible club. I’m really, really proud,” Bloomfield said.

“The feeling that they gave me of being wanted, how much research they’ve done into me and the football team that we’ve produced at Colchester and Wycombe, and the knowledge base of what I stand for, who I am and what we’ve tried to produce in our football team left me in no uncertain times that this was the right move at the right time.”

Wycombe said they were disappointed in Bloomfield’s decision but added that “the club is fully committed to building on this season’s foundations of success and implementing our long-term vision for Wycombe Wanderers.”

The League One side face Mansfield on Saturday.
