Who is in the fourth round?

The FA Cup third round often serves up the fabled magic that has become synonymous with England’s oldest cup competition.

Premier League and Championship clubs have now entered the FA Cup to throw their weight around against lower league opposition, many of whom have endured a gruelling and lengthy journey to reach the third round.

Every season the third round conjures up some appetising and unfamiliar duels but only 32 teams could secure safe passage to the fourth round.

Here are all the FA Cup third round results.

Cardiff City, Everton and Fulham kicked off the FA Cup third round, all triumphing in their Thursday night fixtures. Aston Villa ran out victors in an all-Premier League battle the following night, toppling West Ham United during Graham Potter’s first game in charge of the Irons.

Liverpool, who last won the competition in 2021/22, eased into the fourth round with their 4-0 win over League Two outfit Accrington Stanley. Trent Alexander-Arnold starred after a difficult week for the right-back and Federico Chiesa scored his first goal for the club.

Chelsea produced a similarly high-scoring win over League Two opposition, beating Morecambe 5-0 at Stamford Bridge. Braces from Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix secured an emphatic victory, and the Blues will be joined by Bournemouth, Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest in the fourth round.

The biggest surprise of Saturday’s FA Cup fixtures was Plymouth Argyle’s 1-0 victory away at Brentford. Morgan Whittaker scored the winner in the Pilgrims’ final match before Miron Muslic takes charge from recently dismissed Wayne Rooney.
