Australia’s young wicketkeeper Lachlan Shaw took a stunning catch while diving forward in the 35th match of the Big Bash League between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers. However, he took this catch when he was fielding in the deep and not as a wicketkeeper.
During the end overs of Adelaide Strikers’ innings, left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis bowled a full delivery on the off stump to the batter Alex Ross. It was a length delivery that Ross tried to hit hard towards the shortish boundary at midwicket.
The ball went high in the air and kept swirling around. Lachlan Shaw, who was fielding at deep square ran in from the boundary and put a fantastic dive in the end to catch the ball cleanly with both hands.

It was a stunning catch from Lachlan Shaw and he couldn’t believe that he ended up taking the catch. Despite the ball moving vociferously in the air, he kept his eyes on the ball to take one of the best catches of the season.
It gave the Sixers a huge wicket at the end of the innings as Ross was dismissed for a brilliant 48 off 37 balls. It was also Shaw’s first catch of the day and it turned out to be a magnificent one.
Ollie Pope and Alex Ross shine for Adelaide Strikers
Earlier, Sydney Sixers won the toss and elected to field first. Matthew Short was dismissed cheaply which gave Sydney Sixes a huge breakthrough. The Strikers were reduced to 35-3 as the wicketkeeper Alex Carey was dismissed for a quickfire 18 off 13 balls.
But England’s Test vice-captain Ollie Pope batted excellently and produced a brilliant knock under pressure. He found a great partner in Alex Ross and both took their team to a comfortable position.
Pope was dismissed for 57 off 39 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Allrounder Jamie Overton slammed 32 off 14 balls in the end with 3 fours and 1 six to provide a perfect finish to his team as they finished on 182-5. Jack Edwards and Todd Murphy picked up two wickets each for the Sixers.
Lachlan Shaw shines with the bat
In reply, Sydney Sixers lost Josh Philippe early but Jack Edwards and Steve Smith steadied the ship with an important partnership. Edwards didn’t contribute much but Smith looked in devastating form with the bat.
The veteran scored 52 off just 31 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes. The innings looked to go off the track at 92-5 but Lachlan Shaw came to the rescue again. The youngster played a brilliant knock under pressure to take the Sixers closer to a win.
Shaw was dismissed but Ben Dwarshuis played a blinder down the order. Hayden Kerr stayed till the end to take the Sixers to a narrow win with just one ball to spare. Lloyd Pope and Jamie Overton picked up two wickets each for Strikers but they were not enough in the end.
