Simon Vickers, a 50-year-old father, has been accused of fatally stabbing his 14-year-old daughter, Scarlett Vickers, while “play fighting” in their home.

According to The Guardian, the incident reportedly occurred in July of 2024 in England. Scarlett Vickers’ mother, Sarah Hall, reportedly told authorities that the father and daughter had been “messing around” in the kitchen. Amid the ordeal, Hall said that Simon “didn’t realize” he had “thrown something” at Scarlett.
Once paramedics arrived, Simon reportedly alleged Scarlett had “lunged” toward him.” Additionally, the couple alleged Simon had picked up a spatula, not realizing that a knife “was with it” and thrown it at Scarlett.
“We were cooking tea, we were mucking about playing around and started throwing objects at each other,” Simon reportedly told authorities.
Additionally, he reportedly revealed that he and his family were “intoxicated” after watching soccer.
“It wasn’t even hard, it was nothing, I don’t understand,” Simon reportedly told police.

Per the outlet, Scarlett had reportedly passed away at 11:50 p.m. that evening. Furthermore, the 14-year-old was reportedly found on the kitchen floor of her home with a stab wound in her chest with a depth of 11 centimeters.
Simon Vickers is now reportedly standing trial and has pled not guilty to charges of murder and manslaughter.
Despite this, prosecutors reportedly believe the 14-year-old’s wound was not “caused by a thrown weapon.” Instead, they reportedly believe the knife was “firmly” in Simon’s hands when Scarlett was stabbed.
“The prosecution says that the wound is too deep to have been caused accidentally,” Mark McKone, the prosecutor, reportedly asserted in court.
Per BBC, Simon Vickers’s lawyer, Nicholas Lumley, said his client could “only explain” his daughter’s death “as being the result of a tragic accident caused in the very close confines of their little family kitchen.” Lastly, the outlet adds that the trial against the 50-year-old father reportedly remains ongoing.
