Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel dismissed false quotes circulating on social media that claimed Virat Kohli didn’t want Rohit Sharma to play Tests under his captaincy. Parthiv Patel clarified that the quotes regarding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were untrue and urged people to verify their sources.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma faced intense scrutiny after a poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Both had struggled with form prior to the series, managing only two half-centuries in 12 innings during the India national cricket team’s 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand at home.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s Recent Performances Raise Doubts About Their Place
Their performance raised doubts about their place in the Test side. Kohli answered some of the criticism with a century in the first Test in Perth, while Rohit missed the match due to the birth of his second child. However, both players’ performances dipped, and India ended up losing the five-match series 1-3.
Kohli ended the series with fewer than 200 runs, at an average of 23.75 across nine innings. Rohit had an even more disappointing performance, scoring just 31 runs in five innings, with a dismal average of 6.20 in three Tests. Rohit had to skip the final Test in Sydney, and Jasprit Bumrah was named captain.
“I Haven’t Said This, and This Isn’t True Either” – Parthiv Patel
Fake quotes, which went viral on social media, falsely attributed a statement to Parthiv Patel. The quote stated that Virat Kohli didn’t want Rohit Sharma to play Test cricket under his captaincy.
Patel denied making such statements, calling the quote false and urging people to verify their sources. He also used the hashtag #fakenews to clarify the misinformation.
“Virat Kohli didn’t want Rohit to play Test in his captaincy because Rohit was equal to Virat in ODIs & T20i, 3 double hundred, 11 hundred in WC and 5 hundred in T20i. Virat was ahead of Rohit only in Test, He was afraid Rohit would be equal to him in all formats,” The fake quote, which has gone viral on social media, stated.
“I haven’t said this. And this isn’t true either. Please check your sources, because they’re feeding you very false info..”. He also used the hashtag “#fakenews,” Parthiv Patel wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
