The semi-finals of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup took place between Australia and South Africa in a high-stake match to enter the finals of the tournament. While it has been a breathtaking world cup campaign for both the teams so far, the thrill and excitement got into another level with South African spinner Seshnie Naidu taking a scintillating catch to dismiss the dangerous looking Elanor Larosa and prevent Australia from reaching a gigantic total.
Seshnie Naidu’s stunner rips apart Elanor Larosa’s innings
After winning the toss, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first with the hope that they’ll be able to put some runs on the board. However, the opposite to that happened as the openers marked a dreadful start. Skipper Lucy Hamilton and Caoimhe Bray tried to stabilize the innings but could not push the Australian innings much ahead.
The incident occurred during the 14th over of the innings as Naidu bowled a full-length bowl on to Larosa’s bat which she struck with power and conviction. However, the young spin sensation dived in the air to lay her hands on the ball and put an end to Larosa’s brief run in the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament. Larosa’s innings proved detrimental to Australia’s hopes of putting together a competitive total. The young Australian batter scored just 7 runs and took 23 balls in the process. The Australian innings came to a disappointing end at 105/8 in 20 overs.

South Africa U19 cruised through the finals of the tournament.
Having failed to put a respectable total in front of young Proteas, Australia’s disappointing performance continued with the bowl as they failed to apply pressure on the South African batters. Opener Jemma Botha played an empathic 37-run knock off 24 balls with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes. Skipper Kayela Reyneke carried the South African run chase ahead and played a crucial innings to keep the innings steady from the other end amidst consecutive fall of wickets.
In the end, South Africa women won the match by 5 wickets with 11 balls to spare, this marking the end of Australia’s U-19 T20 World Cup campaign and becoming the first team to enter the finals of the tournament. South Africa will now face the winner of the 2nd semi-final between India and England for a last face-off in the competition.
