Boxing Results: Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields Defeats Danielle ‘New Era’ Perkins

Before a packed house for the return of local favorite Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields, easily defeated the amateurish WBC Silver world heavyweight champion Danielle ‘New Era’ Perkins by a 10-round unanimous decision on Sunday for their titles, three vacant titles, including WBA, WBO, and IBF titles. The two battled it out in the main event at the Dort Financial Center, Flint, Michigan.

Coming in at the light heavyweight limit, WBC World Heavyweight champion Shields, 15-0 (3), defeated WBC Silver Heavyweight champ southpaw Danielle ‘New Era’ Perkins, 5-0 (2), by a 10-round unanimous decision.

Perkins didn’t land a punch in the first round, and Shields maybe two or three. In the second round, Perkins landed a jab while Shields seemed laid back due to Perkins’s size. Shields landed a flurry of punches in the third round before a clinch. With 40 seconds remaining, Perkins fell backward to the canvas without a punch being thrown.

In the fourth round, all of Perkins’s jabs fell short. Perkins landed a left in the final seconds, and Shields almost went down from the slippery canvas. In the fifth round, hardly a punch was landed. In the sixth round, the ‘circus’ continued with Shields almost tripping due to the canvas before a punch was thrown—another no-hit round.

In the seventh round, with half a minute remaining, Shields landed several rights on the chin of the clueless Perkins. In the eighth round, there was hardly a punch that landed.

Perkins had Shields against the ropes in the ninth round and landed three slapping punches. Another nothing happening round. In the tenth and final round, with twelve seconds remaining, Shields finally landed a hard right on Perkins’s chin, dropping her for an 8-count from Ref Rodriguez.

Where did the matchmaker find Lacy and Perkins in the previous fight? Who knows? It’s a shame the fans had to pay for this.

Scores 100-89, 97-92 and 99-91.

In the co-main event, former NABF Jr heavyweight champion Brandon Moore (17-1, 10 KOs) won by unsportsmanlike conduct’ when both Moore and Skylar ‘Big Dog’ Lacy (8-1-2, 6 KOs) went through the ropes due to a Lacy ‘tackle at 0:51 of the eighth round of a scheduled 10 rounds for the vacant IBF USA title.

In the first two rounds of a sloppy match, both got tied up, with a much shorter referee, Steve Willis, having a problem breaking them. Is Lacy a former GG champ? At the third round’s halfway point, Lacy wrestled Moore into a corner, knocking the cameraman off the ring apron.

In the fourth round, Referee Willis took a point from Moore, not Lacy, for holding and later got it right, taking a point from Lacy. In the fifth, with a minute remaining again, Lacy was deducted a point for wrestling.

In the sixth rounds final seconds a left from Moore on the chin finally landed during this wrestling match. In the seventh round, the commentators and fans are waiting for Ref Willis to DQ Lacy, not talk to Moore at the end of the round in his corner. In the eighth round, both boxers went through the ropes and out of the ring when Lacy rushed Moore with Ref Willis counting to twenty, and as Moore got into the ring, he got his hand raised.

Super Welterweight Joe ‘Sug’ Hicks, 12-0 (8), stopped Keon ‘The Chosen One’ Papillion, 10-1-1 (7) at 1:35 of the seventh round of an action bout.

In the first round, little action until the final seconds, with Papillion landing a right against taller Hicks, who countered with a right of his own. In the second round, Papillion’s left eye started to swell from the clash of heads. In the third round, it begins with a right from Papillion on the chin of Hicks—another competitive round.

In the fourth, a good round for Papillion until the final seconds when Hicks landed a long right on the chin.

In the sixth round, Hicks had a good one having Papillion hurt at the end with a chopping right on the left ear. In the seventh round, Hicks came out for a knockout, having both of Papillion’s eyes swelling. It took some time before Referee Ansel Stewart noticed the Papillion corner calling for a halt.

Middle Leon ‘Lethal’ Lawson lll (16-1 (9) stopped Chris Thompson, 9-2 (6) in the fourth round of a scheduled eight.

NABF Jr Light champion Joshua James ‘Double J’ Pagan, 12-0 (4) defeated ‘Triple R’ Ronal Ron Ramirez, 16-7 (13) by an eight-round unanimous decision in an action-packed fight.

In the first round, Pagan did well until the final seconds when Ramirez had him pinned in a corner, landing well. A head butt caused a cut on the left eyebrow of Pagan. In the second round, with blood flowing from a cut and half a minute remaining, Pagan rocked Ramirez on the chin with a right, driving him back several steps.

In the third round, Ramirez started fast and mixed well against Pagan, though not winning the round made a fight of it. The action continued in the fourth and fifth rounds, with both landing well.

In the sixth round’s final seconds, Ramirez rocked Pagan with a right on the chin, re-opening the cut on the left eyebrow. Both had moments in the seventh round, with Pagan being tougher than he thought. In the eighth and final round, both did their best to end it, with local favorite Pagan coming out on top in a much tougher fight than most felt he would have from Ramirez.

The scores were 79-73, 78-74 and 78-74.

Super Lightweight Samantha ‘The Heat’ Worthington, 10-0 (7), defeated Vaida Masiokaite (10-26-6 (1) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

2021 Tokyo Olympian Featherweight WBC Int’l champ Caroline Veyre, 9-1 (0) shut out game Carmen Vargas, 5-3-1) over eight rounds for the vacant WBA Intercontinental title.

In the first round it was all Veyre having Vargas following her and getting countered. In the second round, Veyre caused a small cut on the right eyebrow of Vargas with a right hand. In the third, Veyre drew blood from the nose of Vargas.

In the fourth round, Veyre used excellent footwork, setting up Vargas, whose face is full of blood from eyebrow cuts and nose bleeding. In the fifth round, Vargas never stopped coming forward though being outboxed. In the sixth round the right eye of Vargas is almost closed from a Veyre left hook. The Ring physician checked her in between rounds.

In the seventh round, Vargas is bleeding from the eyebrow, nose, and mouth, but the corner won’t stop it, nor does the referee, let alone the ring physician. In the eighth and final rounds final seconds Veyre rocked on coming Vargas, showing all the heart in the world is Vargas.

The scores were 80-72.

Heavy Pryce Taylor, 5-0 (3), stopped Jerell Nettles, 4-10 (1), in the second round of a scheduled six-round bout.
