Brighton sign teenage Greece star Stefanos Tzimas

Brighton have signed Greece Under-21 international Stefanos Tzimas on a five-and-a-half-year deal from Nurnberg.

Tzimas will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Nurnberg as part of the deal with the 2.Bundesliga club having exercised their option to sign the player from PAOK Salonika before selling him to Brighton.

Fabian Hurzeler said: “Stefanos is an exceptional young talent, an out-and-out centre-forward with a natural ability to score goals, and we are absolutely delighted to have signed him.

“He will join up with us in the summer, ahead of next season, but we are really looking forward to working with him, and feel he has a very exciting future ahead.”

Tzimas has scored 10 goals in 17 league appearances this season and Brighton technical director David Weir believes the 19-year-old’s development will be better served for now by staying in Germany.

Weir said: “He will spend the second half of the season with Nurnburg, who have provided him with an excellent opportunity this season, to continue his development in the Bundesliga 2.

“We will keep a close eye on his progress, and wish him the very best for the second half of the season with Nurnberg.”

Brighton interested in Sunderland winger Watson

Brighton, who were hammered 7-0 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, could be set for a busy deadline day.

They have already sold Benicio Baker-Boaitey to Millwall and striker Evan Ferguson is likely to complete a loan move to West Ham.

The Seagulls remain interested in Sunderland winger Tommy Watson, although the clubs have yet to agree a fee for the 18-year-old.
