Afghanistan secured a historic ODI series win over South Africa in the second match held in Sharjah on September 20, 2024. Afghanistan dominated with a 177-run victory, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.


Batting first, Afghanistan posted an impressive 311/4, powered by a century from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (105 off 110 balls) and a rapid 86* from Azmatullah Omarzai off 50 balls. Their innings was bolstered by a 101-run partnership between Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah, who also contributed 50 runs. South Africa’s bowlers struggled, especially in the final 10 overs, where Afghanistan added 93 runs​



In response, South Africa started promisingly, with Temba Bavuma (38) and Tony de Zorzi (31) putting together a 73-run stand. However, their batting collapsed, losing nine wickets for just 61 runs.
