Allison Holker Doubles Down On Decision to Expose Deceased Husband Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’ Drug Addiction

Allison Holker is defending her decision to expose her late husband, Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ drug addiction after receiving backlash on social media.

In an emotional interview with People magazine, the 36-year-old dancer and choreographer, who tragically lost her husband to suicide in December 2022, shared intimate details about his struggles with mental health, his childhood trauma, and her efforts to help others by speaking out.

Allison Holker’s recent remarks have sparked a wave of criticism from social media users, including some within the dance community. One fellow dancer commented on a People Instagram post featuring Allison’s interview, stating, “This whole thing made me sad. He’s gone. Why tear apart this name?” Another comment, expressing support for Allison’s new relationship with Adam Edmunds, also questioned the timing of her revelations. “This paycheck was not worth disgracing his name,” the commenter wrote.

Allison, however, stood her ground and responded to the criticism with compassion. She replied, “I’ll always love you. Just trying to help people feel safe to ask for help and support.” Allison also reposted several supportive Instagram stories from her followers, including one that read, “Sharing this powerful message to remind us all how important it is to have open conversations about mental health.”

Revealing Personal Details in Her Memoir

In her People interview, Allison, who shares three children with Stephen — Weslie, 16, Maddox, 8, and Zaia, 5 — described discovering a “cornucopia” of drugs hidden in Stephen’s closet in the days before his funeral. She also spoke about finding his journal entries, which included references to being sexually abused by a male figure in his childhood.

“I really hope people dealing with the same thing will help themselves out of the shadows and [know] you’re going to be okay,” Allison said, reflecting on how these revelations about her husband’s hidden pain helped her better understand his struggles. She admitted that Stephen had been grappling with his mental health in silence, which left her heartbroken. “It’s hard to think that he never opened up to someone and wanted to face it, to get through on the other side,” she added.

Allison has made it her mission to raise awareness about mental health struggles, especially among men, and has been vocal about her own journey toward healing. “I’ve been so fortunate to have resources that have helped me that I’ve now teamed up with,” she explained. “I’ve learned there’s so many other resources that a lot of people don’t know about. I’ve had so many people reach out to me needing to talk, and if I’ve learned anything, I’ve learned that mental health can impact anyone at any time of their life.”

Backlash from Family and Friends

Despite Allison’s intentions to raise awareness and provide support, her candidness has led to backlash from some of Stephen’s family and friends. Stephen’s brother, Dré Rose, and close friend, Courtney Ann Platt, have publicly criticized Allison for airing personal details about Stephen’s life in her interview and upcoming memoir, This Far, set for release in February.

Courtney, who claimed to be close with the couple during their relationship, expressed her disapproval in a heated Instagram post, calling Allison’s actions “tacky,” “classless,” and “opportunistic.” She alleged that members of Stephen’s family had to sign an NDA to attend his funeral and accused Allison of treating his mother poorly. Courtney also criticized the memoir, calling it an attempt to tarnish Stephen’s legacy. “In doing so, the So You Think You Can Dance alum is attempting to dim the bright loyal, loving, light that was your husband, my friend,” she wrote.

Dré Rose, Stephen’s brother, also showed support for Courtney’s remarks, sharing her post on his own Instagram Story with the caption, “No lies told…”

Moving Forward and Healing

Despite the public backlash, Allison remains focused on her healing journey and her mission to raise awareness about mental health. She recently made headlines when she shared a photo of her daughter, Weslie, heading to her high school homecoming dance in October 2023. She also shared her first dance video since Stephen’s death, featuring Weslie in a TikTok video to a remix of “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic. These moments have offered a glimpse into Allison’s life as she strives to navigate her grief while also continuing to be present for her children and advocate for important causes.

Allison’s memoir, This Far, is expected to dive deeper into the emotional and personal experiences she’s faced since Stephen’s death, including the impact of their relationship, his struggles, and how she’s moving forward as a widow, mother, and advocate. Through it all, Allison remains committed to her belief that sharing her story will help others feel supported and less isolated in their own struggles. “If I can help just one person by sharing what I’ve gone through, then it’s all worth it,” she concluded.
