Five years after launching its Apple TV Plus streaming service, Apple is rolling out Apple TV for Android devices, the company announced on Wednesday. If you have an Android phone or tablet, you can now stream Major League Soccer, Friday Night Baseball and original series like Severance and Slow Horses on your mobile device. The rollout supports Android 10 and later.
Beginning today, the Apple TV app is available globally to download in the Google Play store for Android smartphones, foldables and tablets, which will enable you to subscribe to Apple TV Plus (which costs $10 a month) and MLS Season Pass ($15 per month). You can sign up for an Apple account within the app, and if you’re new to Apple TV Plus, you can take advantage of a seven-day free trial.
Users will find the experience similar to that of the app’s TV streaming interface, and among the features are a Continue Watching row and the ability to create watch lists or download content. If you already have an Apple, Apple TV Plus or MLS Season Pass account, you can simply sign in to the Android version of Apple TV and your existing information will be integrated into the app. That’ll make it easy to pick up where you left off in a TV show or movie. Though some features, like casting, aren’t available yet, Apple plans to update Android’s Apple TV app in the future with more functions.
On opening Apple TV Plus on your Android, you’ll see recommendation rows, with some that spotlight Apple’s biggest originals from the past five years. There’s a dedicated section for MLS subscribers, with the option to click on a star icon to mark your favorite teams and surface their upcoming games and follow any related content.Â

You can watch the Apple TV Plus movie The Gorge on your phone on Feb. 14
Since its debut in November 2019, Apple TV Plus has been available on Apple ecosystem devices like iPhones, iPads and Apple TVs. It’s also been accessible on Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, Google TV, PCs, smart TVs from brands such as Samsung, Vizio and LG, and select gaming consoles.Â
The addition of an Android mobile app has been rumored in the past, but this launch marks another shift in Apple’s strategy when it comes to accessing its streaming service. Last year, Prime Video began offering Apple TV Plus as an add-on subscription, and the platform was bundled into Comcast’s StreamSaver package along with Netflix and Peacock.
