The next MCU could be MTG. Hasbro Entertainment, which owns the long-running Magic: The Gathering card game, is partnering with Legendary Studios to create live-action movies and TV shows adapting its fantasy world a la the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As reported by Deadline, plans are underway to develop a live-action movie and TV show based on Magic: The Gathering in addition to an animated series that’s already in production with Netflix. The animated series was originally announced in 2019 and was stuck in development, but is now moving ahead towards an unknown release date.Â
Hasbro shared information about the projects with a podcast it sponsors, The Command Zone, in a YouTube video. In the video, podcast hosts Josh Lee Kwai and Jimmy Wong pointed out that, while a movie isn’t going to arrive anytime soon, it’s been a long time coming for the decades-old game.
