AT&T is upping its iPhone trade-in offer to better compete with Verizon and T-Mobile. Starting Friday, the carrier is expanding its deal to let those with older iPhones trade them in for Apple’s latest models, regardless of the condition of their existing device.
The carrier has confirmed to CNET that it is launching a new promotion that will offer users a new iPhone 16 Pro if they trade in an iPhone 13 Pro (or later), while those turning in an iPhone 12 or later phone will be able to get $830 off, or what amounts to the price of a base model 128GB iPhone 16.Â
Those with older devices, dating back to the original iPhone, will be able to get $350 off the purchase of a new Apple phone.Â
“Beginning on February 7 new and existing customers can get up to $1,000 off an iPhone 16 Pro when they trade in an iPhone 13 Pro or later, in any condition,” an AT&T spokesperson says.Â
The offer is open to new and existing users with one of the carrier’s unlimited plans. Those looking to upgrade don’t need to be on the carrier’s priciest plans to qualify, though its cheapest unlimited plan (Value Plus VL) is not eligible.Â
News of the new deal was leaked Wednesday on X by user Tech life Channel.
Phone upgrade offers are usually limited to phones in “good condition” that power on and don’t have noticeable damage, such as cracked backs, swollen batteries or broken screens. Expanding to “any condition” could provide a compelling incentive to those with a busted device to upgrade through AT&T and sign on for three more years. Â Â

Like other carrier offers, the new deal will require you to sign up for a 36-month installment plan from the carrier with the credits for the trade-in dished out every month during that period. Leaving the carrier before the 36 months are finished would leave you on the hook for the remaining balance owed on the device.Â
AT&T has long offered an “any condition” trade-in offer for Samsung’s pricier Galaxy phones, including one for the new Galaxy S25 line, but this marks the first time it’s doing so for the iPhone.
Verizon and T-Mobile have previously offered similar “any condition” deals that included iPhones, but those offers often have required changing to pricier plans. For Verizon that meant moving to its priciest Unlimited Ultimate plan and for T-Mobile switching to its most expensive Go5G Next option.Â
