In a significant development for the Indian cricket team, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna addressed the media after the second day’s play at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), providing an update on the condition of India’s stand-in captain and key bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, who left the field amid injury concerns.
Jasprit Bumrah’s injury scare leaves India concerned at SCG
Bumrah, who has been pivotal in India’s campaign in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, was forced to leave the field during the second session of Day 2. After bowling just one over post-lunch, Bumrah was seen walking off the field and later exiting the SCG in his training gear, heading for scans. This departure raised alarms among fans and team management, given Bumrah’s history of back issues and his critical role in the team’s bowling attack.

Prasidh Krishna gives updates on Bumrah
After the day’s play, Krishna, who had also contributed significantly with the ball, took questions from the press regarding Bumrah’s health. Krishna revealed revealed that Bumrah is experiencing a back spasm. He mentioned that the medical team is closely monitoring the situation and has conducted a scan to assess the extent of the issue. Krishna emphasized that further updates would be provided by the medical team, highlighting the concern surrounding Bumrah’s fitness given his importance to the Indian team.
“Jasprit Bumrah has a back spasm. Medical team is monitoring him so let’s see. He had a scan. Medical team will update,” said Krishna in the presser.
Challenges for India in Bumrah’s absence
Bumrah’s absence from the field was felt immediately as India looked to capitalize on their early bowling success. The team had managed to dismiss Australia for 181 runs, securing a slender lead, but without Bumrah’s pace and precision, the Indian attack appeared less threatening. His departure meant that the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Krishna himself had to shoulder more responsibility in the bowling department. In Bumrah’s absence, Virat Kohli took over the leadership on the field, showcasing the team’s depth in leadership. The Indian team management now faces the challenge of strategizing without one of their prime assets.
