On February 26, Michelle Trachtenberg was reportedly found unresponsive by police at her home in New York City. Sources told Peoplemagazine that she had undergone a liver transplant, although it is not clear if that contributed to her cause of death at this time. However, law enforcement officials did not deem her death suspicious.
Many fans had expressed concern about her well-being on social media in the weeks prior to her death. Fans speculated that she might have been suffering from an unknown condition after commenting on her pale complexion, thin frame, and yellow eyes.

However, she was always quick to rebuke the “haters” who commented on her appearance. “Fun fact. This is my face,” she captioned one Instagram post. “Not malnutrition no problems. Why do you have to hate? Get a calendar.”

In a lengthy message posted to her Instagram Story, the “It Ends With Us” actress took to Instagram to share a lengthy message dedicated to her “Gossip Girl” costar by sharing a screencap of the two together.
“This is the first day I met Michelle,” she explained. “She was electricity. You know when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200%.” Lively went on to list some of these things, writing:
“She laughed the fullest at someone’s joke, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself.”

Further down in the post, Lively remembered that “she always had yummy caramel smelling lip gloss on because she didn’t just want to sparkle on camera, she liked creating a nice experience for anyone who was in her orbit, even down to the subtle smell of her lip gloss because she cared about the sweet details.”
“She was a kind person, through and through,” she emphasized as she continued to praise her late costar.

At the bottom of her post, Lively wrote, “Time passes. You take for granted that you get the chance to see an old friend. To paraphrase, the real tragedies in life are the ones that blindside you on an idle Tuesday.”
“Hold those you love and have loved dear. The world lost a deeply sensitive and good person in Michelle,” she concluded. “May her work and her huge heart be remembered by those who were lucky enough to experience her fire.”
More Costars Pay Tribute To Michelle Trachtenberg
Rosie O’Donnell was one of the first to pay tribute to Michelle Trachtenberg after starring with her in “Harriet the Spy.” She told Us Weekly that Trachtenberg’s death was “heartbreaking,” adding, “I loved her very much. She struggled the last few years. I wish I could have helped.”
Trachtenberg’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” co-star David Boreanaz also reacted to her death in an Instagram Story, writing, “So very sad …horrible news. RIP and prayers to her and her family.”
“I am deeply saddened by the news of Michelle’s passing,” another “Buffy” costar, Alyson Hannigan, wrote on Instagram. “She brought a loving energy to the set of Buffy. My thoughts are with Michelle’s family and friends.”
