Bournemouth vs Tottenham: Preview, predictions and lineups

Tottenham Hotspur make the trip to the Vitality Stadium to lock horns with Bournemouth in the Premier League on Thursday evening.

A midweek round of English top-flight action offers Spurs an opportunity to return to winning ways after successive home draws. Their 4-0 hammering of reigning champions Manchester City was followed by tight clashes with Roma and Fulham on home soil.

This was a fixture that Tottenham triumphed in twice last season, with a 2-0 victory at the Vitality courtesy of goals from James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. However, Spurs know to be wary of the south coast, with Man City and Arsenal having lost to the Cherries already this term.

Bournemouth’s 4-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers brought a two-game losing run to an end. Justin Kluivert became the first player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick of penalties – Evanilson also becoming the first player to win three in a single match – with Bournemouth shooting up the table as a result.

Here is 90min’s guide to Bournemouth vs Tottenham.

Lewis Cook

Andoni Iraola is unlikely to name a lineup too dissimilar to the side that beat Wolves at the weekend, although there may be a few alterations as games come thick and fast in December.

The good news for the Spanish coach is that Lewis Cook could be available after missing the weekend victory with a muscle problem. However, in less positive news, the Cherries are still without long-term absentees Julian Araujo, Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra.

Antoine Semenyo will return to the squad having missed the Wolves clash due to suspension. He accumulated his fifth yellow card of the term against Brighton & Hove Albion and Kluivert, Cook and Marcos Senesi are all a booking away from earning themselves a one-match ban.

Bournemouth predicted lineup vs Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Kepa; Smith, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Kerkez; Adams, Cook; Semenyo, Kluivert, Tavernier; Evanilson.

Spurs have a number of absentees ahead of the trip to Bournemouth. Guglielmo Vicario is sidelined after undergoing ankle surgery and Micky van de Ven remains out of action with a hamstring problem, but World Cup winner Cristian Romero is edging closer to a return even if Thursday’s match could come too soon for him.

Rodrigo Bentancur is still suspended, while Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert are all unavailable in the forward line. Archie Gray picked up a knock against Fulham and will have to be assessed prior to kick-off.

Dominic Solanke made the lucrative move from Bournemouth to Spurs over the summer but is a doubt to return to the Vitality on Thursday. The striker missed the draw with Fulham due to illness and could be forced out again following a tight turnaround.

Tottenham predicted lineup vs Bournemouth (4-3-3): Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bissouma, Sarr; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

Bournemouth have shown their ability to upset the odds this season, especially on home soil. The visit from an injury-stricken and inconsistent Spurs side is unlikely to unnerve the Cherries or Iraola too much.

Bournemouth’s intensity and high-octane approach could take advantage of a Spurs side without their first-choice centre-back pairing and that field an extremely high line. Evanilson’s darting runs in behind could cause problems for a Tottenham defence that don’t keep an abundance of clean sheets.

Of course, Ange Postecoglou’s side have plenty of attacking options themselves but have traditionally slipped up in these fixtures. Thursday’s affair will be tight but the Cherries may secure another impressive win.

Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 Tottenham
