Casemiro reportedly open to Manchester United departure with Saudi likely destination

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is reportedly weighing up his options with a possible move to the Saudi Pro League this month.

Brazilian outlet UOL claims the 32-year-old is open to leaving Old Trafford in January amid interest from six Saudi sides.

Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Ettifaq and Al-Qadisiyah are all keeping tabs on the former Real Madrid player, according to UOL.

It is believed Al-Nassr would be the most suitable candidate to secure Casemiro’s services, and a move for the Brazilian would be a reunion with former Real teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The outlet also claims Casemiro is open to a move to Saudi Arabia and that there are no ‘major obstacles’ standing in the way of a deal.

The news comes following criticism from several pundits of the midfielder’s performance in United’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on Monday.

Former Red Devil Gary Neville, who also took aim at Christian Eriksen, said: “Casemiro and Eriksen haven’t got the legs to get around.

“Casemiro and Eriksen shouldn’t be playing together in the Premier League. It is just so easy. When you saw the Manchester United starting XI you had to think it would be very difficult for this team to play well.

“The two central midfielders can’t run. The back three have no legs. They have been absolutely awful. You are watching the worst pound-for-pound team in the country.”

Earlier in the season, former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher hailed Casemiro as a ‘great’ of the modern game but said his performance levels had dropped and that he should consider a move to the MLS or Saudi Arabia.

Carragher said: “I always remember something when I retired myself, there was a saying I always remember as a footballer, ‘leave the football before the football leaves you’.

‘The football has left him at this top level he needs to call it a day at this level of football and move.”
