Chelsea, Barcelona & Real Madrid target sets contract decision deadline

Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah plans to decide his next club during the January transfer window, a report has claimed, amid links to Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

28-year-old Tah, who helped inspire Leverkusen’s unbeaten run to the Bundesliga title last season, was heavily linked with a move away from the club last summer as he entered the final 12 months of his contract, only for Bayern Munich to fail to convince their domestic rivals to do business.

Since then, Tah has confirmed he does not plan to sign an extension and will leave on a free transfer, sparking interest from a number of Europe’s elite sides.

In the Premier League, Chelsea have been touted as potential suitors, with some reports even going as far as to claim the Blues are leading the race ahead of Barcelona, Real Madrid and long-term admirers Bayern.

Mundo Deportivo stress Tah has not yet made a decision on his next destination but do not expect to be kept waiting long. Indeed, the centre-back wants to decide his next club in January, as soon as he is able to speak with interested teams.

A final decision, whether public or private, is expected to be made by early February.

Tah’s agent, Pini Zahavi, recently confirmed to Welt am Sonntag that the defender will “join a big club next summer”, adding Bayern “still have a very good chance of getting him.”
