Cloud Gaming Comes to PlayStation Portal

The PlayStation Remote Player just got a whole lot more portable. A new system update releasing later Tuesday will allow players to use the Portal to cloud stream games, without needing to connect to a PlayStation 5. Up until this point, the Portal could only remotely play games from your PlayStation 5, and you usually had to do it on the same network for the best results, but now you’ll be able to actually take this device with you to game on the go.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony said this update will allow more than 120 titles to be streamed during beta access. Those games are specific to the PlayStation Plus catalog, and you get access to that library by being a PS Plus Premium member — the most expensive tier costing $18 per month.

Of course, you’ll need a decent internet connection to cloud game, and Sony is recommending 7Mbps for 720p and 13Mbps for 1080p once the beta is available.

As soon as the update is available, we’ll be testing it out and showing it off, so stay tuned for that.
