Copa del Rey third round draw

Barcelona were today handed a tricky Copa del Rey third round draw after being paired again with Barbastro.

The teams met last season at the same stage with Barca struggling to make their superiority count before goals from Fermin Lopez, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski gave them a 3-2 win.

The fourth tier side are struggling in the league – they are 16th in the 18-team Group 2 – but claimed a 2-0 win over Gernika yesterday.

Midfielder Javito said: β€œA repeat of last year! We are very happy and will try to enjoy it again.”

Barbastro have already accounted for one Catalonian team this year after beating Barca’s crosstown rivals Espanyol in the previous round.

Real Madrid will also face a Segunda Division RFEF side after being drawn at Deportivo Minera in a tie that will be played at the home of Cartagena.

Athletic Bilbao, who won the Copa on penalties against Real Mallorca last season to end a 40-year trophy drought, will play Logrones, who beat Girona in the previous round.

Atletico Madrid make the trip south to face Marbella while Valencia face local rivals Eldense.
