Crystal Palace v Aston Villa

Match Preview

Both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are on the hunt for successive wins when they face off at Selhurst Park on Tuesday evening.

Palace, who occupy 13th, saw off Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage on Saturday before Villa got a morale-boosting 2-1 comeback win over Chelsea to take them eighth, just two points off the top four.

The Eagles have performed better away from their home ground this season, having won their last five games in all competitions on their travels, while they have picked up just two Premier League wins in South London this season.

That said, Villa do not exactly boast the best away record this season, either. They have picked up only 14 points in 12 away matches this season, compared to 28 in 15 games at Villa Park.

Despitr struggling to match last season’s form, they remain well in the mix for a second successive Champions League qualification and a win in South London would bolster their chances and stretch their unbeaten run to five games.

Crystal Palace v Aston Villa team news

Palace are still without the injured trio of Joel Ward, Cheick Doucoure and Chadi Riad but Oliver Glasner does not have any fresh issues to deal with.

Jean-Philippe Mateta will hope to continue his outstanding form this season after scoring 14 times as he starts alongside Eberechi Eze, while Adam Wharton may start on the bench as Glasner continues to manage the midfielder’s injury recovery.

Villa are without Ross Barkley, Boubacar Kamara, Amadou Onana, with Pau Torres also set to miss out despite stepping up his recovery from a broken metatarsal.

Morgan Rogers and Tyrone Mings will both be assessed ahead of kick-off after suffering knocks against Chelsea.

Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford could both start after the latter set up the former for two goals in the win over the Blues.
