De La Hoya Claims “Global Rights” To Garcia’s Fights, Blocks Exhibition

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya revealed today that he’ll be suing Ryan Garcia if Golden Boy Promotions isn’t included in his eight-round exhibition fight against Rukiya Anpo on December 30th in Tokyo, Japan.

De La Hoya said that Ryan negotiated a deal behind his back for the exhibition match against Anpo, and he can’t do that because he has “global rights” to his fights. He states that he wants Ryan, 26, to make money, but he must abide by the contract that he has with Golden Boy.

December Bout Uncertain

It’s unclear if the organizers of the eight-round exhibition match between Ryan and Anpo will work a deal with Golden Boy to include them so that the December 30th match can take place. Ryan wanted to get a payday and stay sharp until his one-year suspension ends in April 2025.

“I’m not sure if you saw the press conference for the upcoming exhibition between Ryan Garcia and Rukiya Anpo because Ryan’s team thought they could negotiate a deal behind my back,” said Oscar De La Hoya on his Clap back Thursdays, talking about why he’s blocking Ryan Garcia’s eight-round exhibition match against Rukiya Anpo on December 30th.

“Everyone is aware I have the global rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights. So, what the f***? When you sign a contract, it means, it means it’s legally binding and it means you must abide by the rules or risk getting sued, which is what we unfortunately have to do if Golden Boy is not included in the fight.

“For any person that says I’m trying to block this fight, you are stupid. I want Ryan to make money. I want him to fight, but I demand he honors his contract. Let’s say you started a business. Would you as the honor let things slide and give certain people a slide and give certain people a pass. No, you wouldn’t, and neither am I,” said De La Hoya.
