More Details On The Discovery & The Passenger Reportedly Being Identified As Malachi A. Mitchell
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office’s press release, the driver of the car was ultimately released from custody. Additionally, authorities reportedly identified the deceased passenger as 21-year-old Malachi Mitchell. However, the office has not released additional details about Mitchell’s discovery and passing.
“At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing. For the integrity of the investigation and safety of the individuals, we do not intend to release any further information at this time. Once our investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review and/or prosecution,” the sheriff’s office’s press release reads, noting that the driver and their family have received “threats” from the public.
According to Atlanta News First, Malachi Mitchell’s mother, Kenya, has reacted to the news of police releasing the driver found with her son. Per Fox 5 Atlanta, Kenya allegedly did not learn of her son’s death until she tracked the location of his phone and learned of the traffic stop.
“The person who shot and confessed to shooting my son is at home within hours of them finding my son’s body in the car with this young man that was supposed to be purchasing a gun from my son,” she reportedly said at a recent press conference.
Per the outlet, authorities have asserted that they are “not mak[ing] any charging decisions or draw[ing] any conclusions” about Mitchell’s death until they thoroughly “review the evidence.” Nonetheless, Kenya Mitchell has urged the suspect and police to “do the right thing.”
Last Year, Two Ohio Women Were Charged For Driving A Corpse To A Bank
As The Shade Room previously reported, last year, similar headlines were made involving two Ohio women. In March 2024, Karen Casbohm and Loreen Bea Feralo reportedly found their 80-year-old roommate dead in their home. Subsequently, the women allegedly drove the man’s corpse to the drive-thru window of a bank.
Furthermore, the women were accused of using the man’s corpse to withdraw money from his account.
