The “G.I. Jane” actress was humbled during her acceptance speech and said that she was “in shock,” per CBS.
“Oh, Wow! I really wasn’t expecting that,” said Moore of her historic win. “I’m just in shock right now. I’ve been doing this a long time — like over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor. And I’m just so humbled and grateful.”
Moore added that thirty years prior, she was told by a producer that she was only a “popcorn” actress, and while she could be successful in the industry and earn a lot of money, she would never be acknowledged.

“I bought in and believed that,” said Moore. “That corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete, maybe I had done what I was supposed to do, and I was at kind of a low point. I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called, ‘The Substance.'”

“Oh my god! They’re a vocal crowd,” she exclaimed. “The reality is, which I realized, there were so many people I didn’t get a chance to thank. And the truth is, everything I do is for them. It’s for my daughters, for my daughter’s daughter. And I hope in that same way that translates out also for all women. I am just so grateful that I get to be a part of paving a new pathway, a new way of women how we can be seen, things that we can do. And I’m not the answer but I get to be a small piece.”

Most Of ‘The Substance’ Features Moore Without Dialogue
According to The Hollywood Reporter, most of Moore’s scenes in “The Substance” feature the actress with “no dialogue.”
“The script was such an interesting, out-of-the-box read, the way in which it was exploring the issue of aging,” said Moore. “The thing that grabbed me was the exploration of the violence we can have against ourselves, that way in which we can dissect and criticize. I have found, at least in my own experience in life, that it’s really not what anyone else has ever done to me. The impact has always been on what I do to myself, internalized.”
“So, everything was the kind of odd, intimate moments we have with ourselves, where we are often naked, looking, dissecting, thinking,” she continued. “It was a really interesting challenge to create a full life for her because I didn’t have someone else to feed off of. It was also very technical.”
