Drew Barrymore Shares Shocking Confession About Past Legal Trouble

Drew Barrymore has never been one to keep a wild story to herself, and her latest revelation is certainly among the most surprising.

Though Barrymore and Luke Wilson dated from 1996 to 1998, often stepping out together on red carpets, she has long downplayed the seriousness of their romance. Despite no longer being a couple, the two have remained good friends, with Barrymore recently welcoming Wilson onto her talk show.

During Tuesday’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the actress and host took a nostalgic dive into their past, recalling an unexpected run-in with the law.

The episode featured Barrymore and Wilson reminiscing about some of their favorite memories together, one of which involved a brush with the law.

“I just thought of a memory that wasn’t funny at the time,” Barrymore began, clearly setting up a story that her audience wasn’t expecting.

Wilson didn’t need much of a hint before he immediately knew where she was going. “Beck,” he replied knowingly.

That’s when Barrymore dropped the full story, laughing as she admitted, “I got stopped for public urination!”

Painting the scene for the audience, she described being caught in the act, recalling, “And there I was like, peeking out of the bushes, like, ‘Hi!'”

Wilson, chiming in with more details, revealed that the situation escalated enough that they were actually frisked and detained, though only for a short time. “They gave us, like, a warning, but we got let go with a warning,” Barrymore added, noting that their night wasn’t totally ruined by the brief encounter with the authorities.

Despite the ordeal, Wilson remembered them shaking it off and still having a great time at the concert, adding, “We were like, ‘Alright, let’s go!'”

While introducing Wilson on her talk show during the episode, she reflected on their longstanding friendship, describing him as, “Just the greatest guy, and we’ve known each other forever since we were such babies, and we dated at one point, but, like, the real story is we were good friends, and we’ve been good friends all this time.”

She previously addressed their past romance in 2022, explaining that while they were dating, Wilson was also likely seeing other people. “When we first met, we were young and wild,” she said at the time. “I was dating him, but I think he was also dating other people.”

This isn’t the first time Barrymore has made headlines in recent weeks. Nearly three months after her awkward yet playful exchange with Martha Stewart went viral, Drew Barrymore is finally setting the record straight.

During a recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Barrymore addressed the much-discussed moment from a November episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” where Stewart appeared visibly uncomfortable as Barrymore leaned in during their conversation.

“I think she was just teasing,” Barrymore said, adding that she believes the internet blew the moment out of proportion. “I think the internet just misunderstood the moment and ran with it.”

Despite speculation about potential tension between the two, Barrymore confidently stated that she believes Stewart genuinely likes her now. “I’ve never been able to say this before with confidence, but I can now, I think Martha really does like me,” Barrymore shared.

Reflecting on their past interactions, the actress admitted she once wasn’t so sure how Stewart felt about her. “When I was first getting to know her, I was like, ‘I don’t think she likes me,’” she confessed. “But I think I broke through… she doesn’t dislike me.”

In August, Barrymore opened up about her habit of sitting close to her celebrity guests, attributing it to her deep appreciation for human connection. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, she admitted, “Well, I’ll try to practice physical distance, which is not my strong point.”

Reflecting on her experience during the pandemic, she recalled, “You know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself. I like to be around people.”

Barrymore acknowledged that her affectionate approach isn’t for everyone, adding, “It’s not everyone’s favorite, but I’m sorry to those people.”

Discussing the tone of her show, she emphasized the importance of positivity, explaining, “I think that first of all we’re always gonna be big on joy and laughter and feeling good, and that was something I always wanted to do, but I never thought we would launch in a pandemic, and trying to lean into the joy and the feel good and the comedy at that time was real weird and wacky.”
