The family of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has released a statement in reaction to President Trump‘s order to declassify documents related to his assassination. Additionally, the president has ordered that the files related to John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy‘s deaths also be declassified.

More Details On President Trump’s Order To Declassify Files Related To The Assassinations Of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy & Robert F. Kennedy

According to TMZ, the president signed the executive order on Thursday, January 23. Per the outlet, the document requires the FBI and “other agencies to release ALL documents relating to the assassinations.” Furthermore, the outlet notes that the president’s order requires immediate response.

The president’s order has reportedly acknowledged that “no national security concerns” should be sparked by the release of the documents. Per the outlet, a plan for the release of the assassination documents related to JFK must be submitted in 15 days. Meanwhile, those associated with MLK Jr. and RFK must be submitted within 45 days.

“Everything will be revealed,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office, per Fox News.

The Family Of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Share A Statement Amid The President’s Order To Declassify Assassination Files

On Thursday, January 23, the family of the late Dr. King shared a statement in reaction to Trump’s executive order via X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Today, our family has learned that President Trump has ordered the declassification of the remaining records pertaining to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy, and our father, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For us, the assassination of our father is a deeply personal family loss that we have endured over the last 56 years. We hope to be provided the opportunity to review the files as a family prior to its public release,” the statement reads.

Per Fox News, Dr. King was fatally shot by James Earl Ray in Memphis on April 4, 1968; Sirhan Sirhan fatally shot Robert F. Kennedy on June 5, 1968; and John F. Kennedy was fatally shot in Dallas by Lee Harvey Oswald on  November 22, 1963.
