The Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter has been abandoned after midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch.
17 minutes into the game, 22-year-old Bove bent down to tie his laces and fell to the ground shortly after standing back up, sparking immediate concern from everybody inside the stadium.
Medical staff quickly rushed to Bove as players from both teams formed a shield around the midfielder, who was soon transferred to a local hospital.
The on-field referee initially suspended the game, before Serie A officials confirmed the match would be abandoned.
“The match will not resume and is postponed to a date to be determined,” a statement read. “With the game interrupted, Bove collapsed to the ground and the situation immediately appeared very serious. An ambulance took the player away, we await news.”
Thankfully, Sky Italy reported that Bove regained consciousness in hospital and was soon breathing unassisted, with his heart also understood to be functioning without aid.
