Few people believe Tyson Fury’s retirement is legit, and they see it as ‘Gypsy King’ up to his old tricks, trying to artificially increase his market value. It’s like with a painter. After they’re gone, their artworks become priceless.
King’s Greed
Fury making himself scarce, looking to be lured back with gazillions from Turki Al-Sheikh. For a fighter with Tyson’s limited talent and 0-2 record in his last two fights, he doesn’t rate even minimum wage as an opponent for the washed-up recently knocked out Anthony Joshua.
The 36-year-old Fury’s fights are so awful to look at, and you could pick out almost any heavyweight in the division that would be more entertaining. It’s interesting that Brits still want to see Fury because U.S. fans see him as unwatchable and pure mediocrity.
If the Gypsy King waits too long with his game, he might not get the price he wants from Turki. Fans quickly lose interest, especially when a fighter is old and hasn’t won a high-level fight in 10 years, as in Fury’s case.
His last win over a quality fighter was in 2015 when he beat he beat the 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko. Even that win was nothing special, but that’s how Fury became a star in the UK. The Brits made a big production out of that win. It shows how easy it is to become a star in different countries.
Fury’s Hustle
“I think he wants us desperately pining for him to come back, saying, ‘No, no, please don’t do it,’” said Johnny Nelson to talkSport Boxing about him believing Tyson Fury is faking his retirement, hoping to get fans begging for him to come back.
“They know how to deal with this young child [Eddie Hearn]. He ain’t going anywhere because there’s far too much money for him to walk away from the AJ fight. ‘Today, I’m retired, I’m done. The day after, I want a half a billion,’” said Johnny about Fury’s game.
“So, he’s not even playing a good game of poker. You know what it’s about. He’s trying to up the price. I think Eddie predicted that a week before. So, I don’t believe it,’ said Nelson.
