The event starts at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. In total, the card has 12 fights, which is a vast number. The price tag is $79.95, which may scare away some fans but not those into Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs).
Fight Details
In the co-feature on the card, Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela (14-2, 9 KOs) faces Gary Antuanne Russell (17-1, 17 KOs) in a 12-round fight. Rayo is coming off a 12-round split decision win over Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on August 3rd last year. He schooled Cruz the entire fight and made him look bad.
WBC lightweight champion Alberto Puello (23-0, 10 KOs) defends against the avoided Sandor Martin (42-3, 15 KOs) in a 12-round fight. Sandor is the guy that former WBC champion Devin Haney didn’t want to fight. Martin arguably beat Teofimo Lopez in a controversial 10-round split decision loss on December 10, 2022.
Tank has received much criticism for choosing super featherweight Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) as his opponent, but there’s not much to choose from in the lightweight division. None of the champions at 135 are stars, and top contenders aren’t well known either. All of them are complete unknowns to casual boxing fans.
It makes sense for Gervonta to defend his WBA belt against Roach because his style will prep him for an eventual unification clash against WBC champion Shakur Stevenson. Roach will help Tank get ready for that fight.
