The much-awaited third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will get underway this week. In the first game of WPL 2025, reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will lock horns against Gujarat Giants (GG). The game is scheduled to be played on Friday (February 14) at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
RCB are the defending champions and will look to become the first team to win the WPL title twice. Under the captaincy of India star Smriti Mandhana, RCB had gone all the way last season. In the final, they defeated the Delhi Capitals to win the tournament.
Unlike RCB, GG had a disastrous campaign last year. The Gujarat-based outfit had failed to find their rhythm throughout the season and eventually finished their campaign at the bottom of the points table. They had managed to win just two of their eight league games and had failed to qualify for the Eliminator.
