The Handmaid’s Tale caused a sensation when it debuted back in 2017, winning multiple Emmys for its acclaimed first season. While it continued to be a draw over its next few installments, by its fifth season—which wrapped up in late 2022—it was no longer at the forefront of pop culture. While in another timeline a sixth season might feel unnecessary, The Handmaid’s Tale‘s storyline once again feels eerily relevant to America’s current political situation.
Here’s the first teaser for The Handmaid’s Tale season six, in which Elisabeth Moss’ character June dons her familiar white cap and red robes to lead an army of women who’re ready to end Gilead’s oppressive, misogynistic, on-the-brink-of-war-with-Canada regime once and for all.
The tag line for season six is “The revolution is here,” something the show has been promising to deliver on since… well, 2017. Here’s the synopsis: “In the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, June’s unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead. Luke and Moira join the resistance. Serena tries to reform Gilead while Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia reckon with what they have wrought, and Nick faces challenging tests of character. The final chapter of June’s journey highlights the importance of hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.”
The cast for season six includes Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger, Ever Carradine, and Josh Charles.
The Handmaid’s Tale returns April 8 with three episodes, followed by a weekly rollout through May 27. Will you be tuning in to see how it ends?
