Jesse Lingard fires back at claims the former midfielder, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford ‘destroyed the culture of the club’

Former Manchester United midfielder Marcus Rashford has fired back at social media critics who said he helped “destroy the culture” at the club.

Lingard, who is now with Korean side FC Seoul after leaving United in 2022, was accused by one fan on X of negatively affecting the culture at Old Trafford alongside former player Pogba and Rashford.

Like Lingard, Pogba departed the club in 2022 as he sealed a move to Juventus, while Rashford is still on the books with the Red Devils but recently moved on loan to Aston Villa.

But while the 32-year-old has finally found form in South Korea, he still faced criticism from his time at the Theatre of Dreams.

In a reply to a post by United showing a goal by Lingard against Newcastle in 2015-16, one user said: “Him, Pogba and Rashford destroyed the culture even Rooney admitted.”

Meanwhile, Lingard was quick to reply: “Please explain how me paul and Marcus destroyed Manchester United’s culture?”

Another fan entered the conversation: “You made us play well which some dumb b*****ds that “support” this club don’t like because you dance and have fun.”

However, Lingard defended his position by saying: “Lool we was just enjoying our life of we played for biggest club in the world of course we made mistakes and we learn but we gonna have fun and smile and dance.”

Many former United players have criticised the decline of the club’s culture since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, with both Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney questioning former players’ social media antics while they were struggling in the league.

After ending a difficult spell with United in 2022, Lingard moved to Nottingham Forest, where he struggled to make an impact either. He has seemingly now found his place in South Korea and recently spoke of how much he is enjoying life in Asia.

He said: “Coach Kim Gi-dong is someone who has a great understanding of football. He leads the team according to a clear plan.

“The K-League is gathering more fans. I hope that everyone in the football industry, including the coaching staff, players, and front office, will not be satisfied with this atmosphere and continue to move forward.”

Pogba left for Juventus the same summer and is now unattached after a doping ban, which has now been cleared for and can return to action.

Rashford, meanwhile, is looking to rejuvenate his career with Villa after a securing a six-month loan to Unai Emery’s men. The 27-year-old made his debut in a 2-1 win over Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
