Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3, was a surprise announcement in 2023, but details about its release were unknown until a leak appeared online Thursday.Â
A post on the video game forum ResetEra showed a leaked trailer that appeared to be uploaded in error. The trailer shows footage from the upcoming remake and shows a release date of Aug. 28, 2025.Â
Konami didn’t immediately respond to a request for confirmation about the details in the leaked trailer.Â
Also revealed at the very end of the trailer was what appears to be the return of the Ape Escape crossover minigame Snake vs. Monkey. When Metal Gear Solid 3 was released on the PS2 in 2004, Konami added the minigame that featured the monkey from the Sony-published game. Snake was tasked with capturing the monkeys that were hiding across various areas of the game in a tongue-in-cheek fashion.Â
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the first game from the franchise since 2018’s Meta Gear Survive, and it’s a remake of the original 2004 game. Not only does the new version include updated visuals comparable to modern games, but it will also have various quality-of-life improvements while staying faithful to the original.Â
Metal Gear Solid 3 radically changed the stealth gameplay the franchise was known for. Naked Snake, later known as Big Boss, has a mission to rescue a Russian weapons scientist from the USSR in 1964. He sneaks around the jungles of Russia and uses of different camouflage outfits to blend in with the environment instead of hiding in boxes and around corners as in other Metal Gear games.Â
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.Â
