Lebanon set to elect president after 12 failed bids, Joseph Aoun emerges as frontrunner

Lebanon’s parliament on Thursday looked set to elect army chief Joseph Aoun as the country’s new president after a Hezbollah-backed candidate withdrew from the race, ending more than two years of political deadlock.
