Lineups, team news, confirmed starting teams in EFL Cup semi-final

The second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Tottenham is intriguingly poised thanks to Spurs’ 1-0 first-leg victory.

The Reds are 29 points above their visitors in the Premier League and a premature end to their EFL Cup title defence would be the first real setback of Arne Slot’s first season in charge.

Spurs have lost two more league games than any other team outside of the bottom four, but a slight easing of their injury list and manager Ange Postecoglou’s impressive record of winning trophies in his second season at clubs could give them confidence.

101GreatGoals.com has you covered for the line-ups, team news and confirmed starting sides for Liverpool vs Tottenham.

Liverpool lineup vs Spurs

Trent Alexander-Arnold is Liverpool’s only absentee with a short-term thigh injury the wideman sustained during the 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Slot said he would tell goalkeepers Caoimhin Kelleher and Alisson Becker who would start the game on Wednesday – and the Republic of Ireland international receives the nod.

There are two surprises elsewhere: Curtis Jones starts in midfielder with Alexis Mac Allister on the bench, and Darwin Nunez is preferred to Luis Diaz.

Forward Cody Gakpo is the top scorer of the players still involved in this season’s EFL Cup, contributing four goals and an assist.

Liverpool starting XI: Kelleher, Bradley, Van Dijk, Konate, Robertson, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Jones, Gakpo, Nunez, Salah,

Subs: Jaros, Endo, Diaz, Mac Allister, Chiesa, Elliott, Jota, Tsimikas, Quansah

Tottenham lineup vs Liverpool

Bayern Munich loanee Mathys Tel could make his debut from the bench in attack for Spurs, while Austria centre-back Kevin Danso starts following his loan arrival with an obligation to buy from Lens.

Danso’s signing is a timely one after Radu Dragusin’s knee surgery, as were the returns of Djed Spence and Ben Davies at the back in the 2-0 win at Brentford on Sunday.

The Australian had been hopeful that defender Micky van de Ven would come back from injury for the second leg before declaring on Wednesday that the Netherlands international will not be involved.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, defender Destiny Udogie, midfielder James Maddison and forwards Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Dominic Solanke remain out.

Tottenham starting XI: Kinsky, Gray, Danso, Davies, Spence, Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son

Subs: Austin, Pedro Porro, Reguilon, Bergvall, Ajayi, Cassanova, Olusesi, Moore, Tel
