The Ruben Amorim era got off to a flying start as Marcus Rashford sensationally scored for Manchester United after just 80 seconds against Ipswich Town.
Rashford was named as United’s starting striker ahead of Rasmus Hojlund, flanked by attacking midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho as Amorim implemented his favoured 3-4-3 formation.
Amad Diallo was given a new role, starting at right wing-back opposite Diogo Dalot, and it was the Ivorian’s brilliance that set Amorim up for the best possible start.
Bursting down the flank after a neat interchange with Bruno Fernandes, Amad weighted a perfect cross onto the outstretched leg of Rashford, who turned the ball home from close range to send United’s supporters wild.
Amorim remained cool and composed on the touchline, taking a sip from his water bottle as he watched the replay, but not even the talented Portuguese coach could have envisaged getting off to such a sensational start.
