Authorities are reportedly searching Alaska for a missing Bering Air Caravan flight carrying 10 passengers, including nine travelers and one pilot.

According to PEOPLE, a Bering Air Caravan flight heading to Nome, Alaska, from Unalakleet, Alaska, was reported overdue around 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 6. Per the outlet, the plane departed Unalakleet at 2:37 p.m.

Furthermore, around 10:12 p.m., the Nome Volunteer Fire Department took to Facebook. The department shared that it was responding to reports of the missing craft.

“We are currently doing an active ground search from Nome and from White Mountain and have as much up to date information on the event as possible. Due to weather and visibility, we are limited on air search at the current time. National Guard and Coast Guard and Troopers have been notified and are active in the search,” their post shared in part. “… We ask the public to please think of those who may be missing at this time, but due to weather and safety concerns please do not form individual search parties…”

More Details On The Search In Alaska

On Friday, February 7, the department returned to Facebook. Additionally, the department shared that a search plane arrived in the Nome area. There, the plan for the search plane was to fly a “grid pattern over the water and shoreline in attempts to locate the plane.”

“The plane is equipped with specialized equipment for search and rescue that enables them to locate objects and people through no visibility conditions,” the post added.

Per the outlet, the Bering Air Caravan flight was “12 miles offshore… when its position was lost.”

Furthermore, as of 10 a.m., Friday, January 7, the Nome Volunteer Fire Department has shared that no updated information is available on the missing craft.

“Crews are still searching on the ground, canvassing as much area as possible. The National Guard C-130 reported they found nothing found so far. The Airforce also sent a C-130 resumed the search and also have reported no visuals, and have one hour of flight search time remaining,” their update adds.

The news of the missing Berin Air Caravan flight follows a multitude of concerning headlines in aviation. As The Shade Room previously reported, last week, a military helicopter fatally collided with an American Airlines passenger plane carrying a total of 64 passengers. Then, a few days later, a Learjet landed in the streets of Philadelphia. In that incident, six plane passengers were killed. Additionally, multiple people on the ground were injured, per The Shade Room.

Furthermore, earlier this week, two planes collided at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
